LEED 251: Strategies for Success in LEED - LEED and Water Use Reduction

Water efficiency conserves both water and energy – generating benefits both for the environment and the bottom line. Determining water use reduction requires calculating an accurate baseline and reductions through efficiency strategies. Project teams often get tripped up on these calculations in LEED. Walk through calculations, issues and lessons learned from some typical and atypical scenarios. Register for this session to find a clear path for success in achieving LEED Water Efficiency Prerequisite 1 for design, construction and operations.

Featuring LEED Technical Advisory Group (TAG) and Committee members – LEED experts in the field – this series will highlight a number of credit categories undergoing important evolution. Upon completion of this webinar series, attendees will have the information needed to be prepared for integrating these updates to LEED into their professional practice.

    Learning Objectives

-Identify common pitfalls in calculating water use reduction for LEED projects and resources for success
-Establish correct fixture groups based on FTE calculations and variable fixtures and uses
-Establish appropriate baseline water use for typical project types
-Calculate correct water use savings based off of baseline water use
-Apply calculations to ‘atypical’ project scenarios

BD+C 255: Building & Material Reuse: Understanding the Challenges, Celebrating the Success

The LEED credits related to building reuse (Materials & Resources Credits 1.1 and 1.2) and material reuse (Materials & Resources Credits 3.1 and 3.2) are some of the least utilized credits within the rating system. In a time of increasingly limited resources and a growing awareness around sustainable stewardship, however, building and material reuse represents one of the ultimate forms of resource conservation. The reuse of existing built fabric can be economically pragmatic, nurture communities, and provide vision of how to live more sustainably.

Join USGBC for this exciting webinar session, addressing reuse and credit challenges and opportunities, innovative tools and resources available, and strategies to utilize reuse as a vehicle for creativity and sustainability. Upon completion of this webinar session, attendees will gain a greater understanding of how to integrate building and material reuse into their projects and useful strategies for navigating the related LEED credits.

Participants must be present to view the webinar and receive credit for attendance.

Drinks and snacks will be sponsored by GH Phipps

    Learning Objectives

-Define foundational concepts related to building and material reuse
-Outline credit intent and techniques that support credit achievement in Materials & Resources Credits 1.1, 1.2, 3.1 and 3.2
-Discuss, through case studies and anecdotal stories, effective strategies and methods for building and material reuse
-Identify tools and resources available to support designing with material reuse, material and team logistics, and LEED certification processes

    REGREEN 251: Home Performance Audits

This webinar will reveal the value in conducting a home performance audit.  We will discuss the components of comprehensive audit and the valuable information that is discovered through the key performance tests, inspections and analysis.

Home performance audits are key to assessing a home's current performance and identifying the source of inefficiencies, durability issues and any hazards. Upfront performance tests, inspections and analysis allow you to get the facts!  Having the facts empowers homeowners and remodel professionals to make meaningful and successful improvements.

Join us as we discuss the key components and value of home performance audits.  This webinar is a valuable educational opportunity for remodeling professionals, homeowners, policy makers and anyone else involved in retrofitting our existing housing stock.

Participants must be present to view the webinar and receive credit for attendance.

Drinks and snacks will be sponsored by GH Phipps

    Learning Objectives

-Review the importance and value of a home performance audit
-Identify key testes, inspections, and the analysis necessary to conduct a home performance audit
-Understand the systems approach to home buildings
-Prepare you for further understanding and exploration of REGREEN
