Increasing window to wall ratio without energy penalty

To increase building energy performance, building codes are restricting the allowable window area. However, windows can be an energy positive if used as part of an integrated façade. Optimizing natural daylight to offset using electric lighting energy saves energy at building and national levels and improves the quality of the built environment.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Summarize the role of daylighting, and describe its challenges for use in sustainable design
    • Describe active and passive dynamic glazing systems
    • List the four components that make up an electrochromic control system
    • Describe three different methods of electrochromic glazing control and a building user situation applicable to each
    Featured Speaker:
    Andrew Hulse, SAGE Electrochromics

Learn the credits, requirements and essentials of the LEED for Homes rating system. Gain knowledge of the benefits of green homes and the structure, requirements and implementation process of the LEED for Homes rating system, and identify necessary steps to get started with a LEED for Homes project.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Identify the types of projects which are eligible
    • Recognize the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders in the LEED certification process
    • Recognize goals, intents, and requirements of prerequisites and key credits, and strategies to meet them
    • Identify synergies between LEED credits
    • Plan for key considerations and requirements for the LEED certification process

    ASHRAE 90.1 2007 vs 2010

The imminent launch of LEED V 4 will bring a infrequently-used energy standard to the forefront, ASHRAE 90.1-2010. What's the big deal about this? This session will delve into the details of the differences between ASHRAE 90.1-2007 and ASHRAE 90.1-2010. It will also provide the differences in savings between these two standards through the use of case studies.

    Learning Objectives:

Compare ASHRAE 90.1-2007 and ASHRAE 90.1-2010 to understand the differences between the two standards with respect to envelope, HVAC, and lighting considerations

Describe the impact on energy savings when using ASHRAE 90.1-2010 as a baseline instead of ASHRAE 90.1-2007

Identify the differing energy savings impacts between varying building types, through the use of case studies, for application in building design
